Civil Rights Meets College Football

Hour 2:  Where did college sports and racial integration meet? This hour, we’ll take a look at black college football in the Civil Rights era with Samuel G. Freedman, journalist and professor of journalism at Columbia University. He writes about the 1967 season at Grambling and Florida A&M and the larger struggle for equality in Breaking the Line: The Season in Black College Football That Transformed the Sport and Changed the Course of Civil Rights (Simon & Schuster, 2013). Freedman joined us in October, and today, we’ll listen back to the interview as part of our Martin Luther King Jr. Day special.
