Why Do We Judge Women Over How They Give Birth?

think.kera.org 0

For mothers, the way their baby is born leads to powerful birth stories — and with the C-section, often brings judgment. Leslie Jamison teaches in Columbia University’s MFA program, and she joins host Krys Boyd to talk about the rise of the Cesarean section and the backlash against it, pitting the procedure against the idea of a “natural birth” and a woman’s worth as a mother. Her essay, published in The New York Times Magazine, is called “A Personal History of the C-Section.”
